About Palm Beach Gold Coast
Palm Beach is a suburb at the southern end of the Gold Coast, Queensland. Palm Beach is defined largely by the ocean, Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek. The greatest claim to fame for Palm Beach Gold Coast is the beach itself. Palm Beach has been judged Queensland's Cleanest Beach three times by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council in 1999, 2000 and 2011.
During the busy summer season Palm Beach Gold Coast features three sections of ocean beach that are patrolled by life guards. In addition there is a section of Tallebudgera Creek that is also patrolled by life guards.
While Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek are called creeks, and they originally were, today they look and function as minor rivers. Both Tallebudgera Creek and Currumbin Creek are managed water ways. Currumbin Creek features training walls on both side of its mouth where it meets the ocean. Tallebudgera Creek features a training wall on the south side of its entrance with a natural rock wall on the north side that is part of Burleigh Headland. The entrance to both these creeks are regularly dredged to maintain a navigable water way for small vessels, more so in Currumbin Creek. Excess sand generated by the dredging is pumped on to beaches to maintain good sand levels.
